Retouching Photo Using Photoshop’s Spot Healing Brush Tool

Image: better-photography.com

The Spot Healing Brush tool quickly removes blemishes and other imperfections in your photos.  The Spot Healing Brush tool is basically a texture replacement tool. It takes damaged or unwanted texture from one area and replaces it with good texture from another area. It then blends the good texture in with the problem area's original tone and color to produce seamless results. Here is how to retouch photo using Spot Healing Brush tool.

First, open the original photo in the Layers panel and add a new blank layer by holding Alt key and clicking the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. The new layer will appear above the original photo where the spot healing work will take place.

Then, select the Spot Healing Brush tool from the toolbox and choose a brush size in the Options bar. A brush that is slightly larger than the area you want to fix works best so that you can cover the entire area with one click.

Next, select Sample All Layers and Content-Aware in the Options bar along the top of the screen. Sample All Layers enables Photoshop to sample data from all visible layers and Content-Aware allows Photoshop to make more intelligent decisions when choosing good replacement texture for the problem area.

Finally, click the area you want to fix, or click and drag to smooth over imperfections in a larger area. Zoom in on an area of the object photo to see the problem spots more clearly.
